Back to School 2020

Back to School 2020

7/24/2020

Dear Huntertown Families,

The start of the new school year is just around the corner.  The days are hot, kids are restless, and stores a stocked with Back to School supplies.  And have you noticed that this year stores have added hand sanitizer and disposable masks to the school supplies?  These are interesting times we are living in.  As I told our 5th graders at the end of last school year, we are currently living out history.  When their kids are in elementary school, their social studies books will have a section on the great pandemic of 2020.

This school year will be different than in years past, but I know it will be a good one.  Even with everything going on, we have much to be grateful for.  May we spend our days focusing on the people in our lives who make life worth living.  For me, it’s my students.  I am thankful that I am able to start the school year with them all in the building.  I can’t wait to see them all!

Registration

The registration window opens July 28th through August 4th.  Please complete this as soon as possible as this helpful for our planning purposes.  The PowerSchool Parent Portal link is http://www.nacs.k12.in.us/parents   Parent Access ID and Password for new students was mailed home the week of July 8th.  Returning students will use the same account as last year.  You may call the school office if you have questions.  Parents who need access to a computer may come into the school for assistance on Monday, August 3rd from 1:00-7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, August 4th from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Keep in mind that facial coverings are required for anyone entering a NACS facility.

Transportation

Once registration begins, bus Information can be found in your PowerSchool account under “Transportation.”  If you are new and still do not know your bus information, please contact NACS Transportation at 637-6165.  In the next few days, you will be receiving a link called “Huntertown After School Transportation Form”.  Because the safety of your child(ren) is most important to us, we ask you to complete this for each of your children, as soon as you get the link.  This will tell us your wishes on where and how you want your child(ren) to go after school each day.

Back to School Night

Due to social distancing and state mass gathering limitations, there will be NO Back to School Night to drop off school supplies. While we understand students will have a lot of supplies to bring, they are welcome to bring them over the first few days of school so they are not overloaded.  Please do not stress over not having ALL supplies here on the first day.

New Computers!

Incoming First and Fifth Graders:  Your student will be receiving a new computer this year.  Therefore, we need to collect your current computer/case/charger prior to school starting so that we can process the new computer for your student as soon as possible.  You may drop off your computer/adaptor starting next week on the following dates and times:

                Wednesday, July 29         8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

                Thursday, July 30              8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

  • Classroom placements are very tentative at this point as we wait to confirm how many students are doing remote learning rather than on-site instruction. Once we have a better idea of these numbers, classroom placement will be confirmed. At that point, students will know who their teachers will be.

  • We welcome our newest 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Schwartz, to the Huntertown team!

I appreciate your patience as we navigate reopening our school.  We are excited to see our hallways come back to life with our students and staff, and we are looking forward to another great school year.  Go Wildcats!
